Challenges

For the overwhelming most part, both points of view are false.
An additional challenge that I face with this website is managing my own expectations.
If I post that there is a 99.999% chance that the swimsuit model that someone believes that he is communicating with is actually a scammer, the response from a significant number of people would be:
"So you're telling me that there is a chance she is legitimate?"

A Fool's Errand?

The mission of this website is to spread awareness of internet scams.
Scams on the internet are now extremely common, especially on dating websites.
I would like to have children.
English is the only language that I am proficient in, so I would likely be raising them in the United States.
In the United States, university prestige and the list price of attendance are very strongly correlated.
If my family were to be competing for admission against scammers that have large amounts of money to donate to universities, my children would not really be competing at all.
When you give money to a scammer, in addition to the impact on your own family, you are making it harder for all honest people to compete.

Go Big Or Go Home!

I need the general public to read this website.
Otherwise, the population of people interested in a website about internet scams would be limited to ... internet scammers.
I have some ideas on how to drive traffic to this website.
One of those is a matchmaking service.

Among my circle of friends is an elderly woman.
She has repeatedly expressed that in order for her to take a romantic interest in a man, that man would need to possess the following attributes:

If pressed, she would concede that she would compromise by accepting a man who is missing the third bullet and missing either the first or second bullet, but not both the first and second bullets.
She would be a poor match not only for my matchmaking service, but she would be a poor match for any matchmaking service.
That particular woman would be best served by continuing your search as she sees fit, while understanding that the men who contact her claming to have all of her required attributes will be either overwhelming scammers or outright exclusively scammers.

Confirmation Bias

Confirmation bias is the practice of gathering and interpreting evidence to reinforce one or more existing beliefs.
The elderly woman in the previous section has nieces and nephews who are in the process of applying to college.
She believes that they will all be heavily recruited by the most prestigious colleges.
She thinks that they should apply to Boston University as a "safety school" in the unlikely event that one of them is not accepted to one of the nation's most prestigious colleges.
The reality is that not only is Boston University not a "safety school" for any of nieces or nephews, it is highly unlikely that any of her nieces or nephews would even be accepted to Boston University.
Regardless of how many times I try to explain it to her, it simply does not matter.
She will go on to list a number of unremarkable people that she has met who graduated from Boston University more than 60 years ago.
I will then try to explain to her that John Silber became the president of Boston University in 1971 and conducted an extraordinary turnaround of Boston University.
Ignoring my explanation, my friend will then go on to list additional people who were admitted to Boston University before John Silber took office.
