Sextortion: "Hello Pervert

Sextortion themed scams are extremely common on the internet.
If you have a personal email account that you regularly use, it would be unusual for you not to have received a sextortion email.
If you work for a large corporation, your employer likely has hardware and/or software in place to stop such emails, but some might still get through.
The following are 2 common types of internet sextortion:

Both of the above are examples of social engineering.
This web page will address an email of the second category that I recently received.
Even if you cannot recall having received this particular scam email, you would still be well served to read this page in order to build an understanding of the lengths that scammers will go to.

Location, Location, Location?

In addition to the body of an email, an email will also have an email header.
What command you use to view an email header will demand upon what email client software you are using.
However, if you think that an email header can tell you with certainty where a scammer is or is not located, then that means that you have a lot to learn about internet security.
Regardless of what an email header shows, a given scammer could be any place on the planet that has internet connectivity.
There would be no point in responding to the scammer to say that you know that he is a scammer, and that you are going to report him or her to law enforcement.
The scammer already knows that he or she is a scammer.
All that replying to a scammer can achieve is to alert a scammer to the fact that you have read his or her scam email.

No Honor Among Thieves

In the email that I was sent, there is nothing to indicate that the scammer actually has the Godlike powers that he or she is pretending that he or she has.
If we were to pretend that he or she did have something, what would happen if I made the payment?
What might happen is that the scammer would continue to ask for additional payments!

In the example scam email that I received, I did the following before uploading it to the internet:

It’s bееn а fеw months sincе I instаllеd it on аll your dеviсеs bеcаusе you wеrе not quitе choosy аbout whаt links to click on thе intеrnеt. During this pеriod, I’vе lеаrnеd аbout аll аspеcts of your privаtе lifе, but оnе is of spеciаl significаncе to mе.
I’vе rеcordеd mаny vidеos of you jеrking off to highly controvеrsiаl роrn vidеos. Givеn thаt thе “quеstionаblе” gеnrе is аlmost аlwаys thе sаmе, I cаn concludе thаt you hаvе sick реrvеrsiоn.

Also, don’t forgеt thаt cryptocurrеnciеs аrе аnonymous, so it’s impossiblе to idеntify mе using thе providеd аddrеss.
