 Nature Abhors a Vacuum

As I am typing this web page, vast numbers of young men are scouring the internet in search of romantic relationships with young women.

What time am I typing this?
It does not matter... regardless of day and time, the statement would still be true.
While it would be an overstatement to say there are no young women on the internet searching for romantic relationships with young men, there are far, far more men than women searching for the opposite gender.
My guess is that assuming 10 men for every 1 woman is likely a highly optimistic regarding the chance of a man finding a woman on the internet.
As if that were not sad enough, young men searching for young women are among the prime targets of internet scams.
If you are a man searching for a young woman, there is an extremely high chance that the profiles that allege to be from women are scammers.

Do I intend to mean that only men should be wary of scams?

No, not at all.
While young men are a primary target, scammers target everyone.
There are credible stories of real women falling for scams
Some of those women were sufficiently desirable that if I were to have charged an actual man $10,000 to introduce him to her, he would have tried to deliver the fee to me quickly before I changed my mind.
