If you post anything that could broadly be called art on the internet, there is a significant chance that you will be contacted by someone intending to perform an art commission scam.
Art commission scams
An art commission scam will generally involve one or both of the points below:
"Overpayment" The artist will be sent a payment that is in some manner fake or fraudulent. The payment might be an email sent by the scammer that is intended to look like it came from a payment processor such as PayPal or the payment might be an actual payment sent from a compromised account. The scammer will then tell the victim that his or her assistant "accidentally" paid the victim too much. The quotation marks are mine, not the scammer's. The victim is then asked to return the difference to the scammer. The scammer may or may not request that the payment be made in cryptocurrency or gift cards.
Non-fungible token The artist will be asked to pay an NFT minting fee. Do NOT pay money in order to receive money. Under no circumstances are you to pay an NFT minting fee, regardless of whether you believe that you have been paid or you will be paid.
